Who Gets Access to Knowledge?

For my final project, I am creating a Google Sites portfolio. This means creating a put-together piece that is open for anyone to see. It is going to be a reflection of my work for the entire semester and a place where I am attempting to educate others on everything that I have learned over the course of this semester! Because of this, I am hoping that I will be able to create an easy-to-follow, educational space for people to come and learn. Since it will be open access, I know that anyone who wants to access the site will be able to, so I must also be careful to create a space that everyone can come and learn! As this portfolio will be a part of the open web, like I said before, I know anyone will be able to see it. But in the end, I hope my audience or the people who receive the most influence will be both students and educators, but also anyone on social media! For this reason, the topics I plan to cover in this portfolio are AI, misinformation, and digital identity. I think these topics are important to one another, as our digital identity is shaped by what we see online and heavily influenced by others, and what we want them to see. I think they are important for my audience because of what our digital world has come to today. As we talked about this week, anyone can publish anything. So quality control does not exist. This is why being able to handle things such as AI and misinformation is so important. Through my Google Sites, this is what I hope to educate my audience about. Not to scare them by any means, but to help them know the reality of our digital spaces today! Therefore, as a creator, I must understand I am not just learning but also creating educational content, and that is a pretty big responsibility! When you put any kind of information out into the world, especially in a way that’s meant to teach, you’re shaping how other people understand a topic. For this reason, I must make sure I get my facts right. This means using the SIFT method as I research. I also want to give my readers the easiest access to these sources so they know I am presenting them with real information. But also, so they can research more on their own if they wish! Additionally, I need to communicate clearly and effectively so that anyone who views my site can have a clear understanding of what I am trying to share and create. Lastly, creating an overall safe space for learners is something very important to me. I want to make sure that everyone feels welcome in the resources I create!
